GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH (G2)
From SpaceWeather.com
GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH (G2): Moderate (G2) geomagnetic storms are possible on April 22-23 when a co-rotating interaction region (CIR) is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. CIRs are transition zones between fast- and slow-moving streams of solar wind; they contain enhanced magnetic fields akin to those of CMEs. Sky watchers across Canada and northern-tier US states from New York to Washington should be alert for auroras.
The Story of AMSAT-OSCAR 7: The Ham Satellite That Refused To Die
The AMSAT-OSCAR 7 (AO-7) amateur radio satellite was launched in 1974. At that time, it was only expected to work for about five years. But it continued until 1981 when a battery failure caused it to be written off as dead. But that in not the end of the story!
Simplex Network Update
Activities to develop or improve our simplex network continue. Another structured simplex net will be planned soon (likely to take place in May). Watch this website for further information on the date, time, and details of this event.
In the meantime, less formal simplex exercises will be held each Saturday and Sunday.
Saturdays: 9:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. If your time permits, get onto simplex frequency 146.520 and test to see who you can contact and communicate with effectively. Remember to tune your squelch down all the way to allow the best possible reception.
Sundays: 3:45 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.: Just prior to the weekly ARES nets, get onto simplex frequency 146.520 and listen for and respond to the net. There will be net control on this one, so listen for net control's direction.
In all cases, please record the information from you simplex activity and transfer this information to the spreadsheet we have developed for this purpose. The spreadsheet can be found at THIS LINK or on our Simplex Network page on this website. We need to faithfully enter this information in the spreadsheet to provide a useful tool.

The East Alabama Amateur Radio Club ("EAARC") website will provide you with an online introduction to our Club if we haven’t yet met. The website provides timely notice of upcoming events, informative and educational pages and weblinks (which will be a resource for your amateur radio study and testing), and otherwise serves as a resource for anyone interested or active in the ham radio hobby. Our goal for the website is to create a modern, user-friendly, informative, and intuitive web presence for The Club. We welcome your interaction and suggestions! Feel free to provide suggestions for additions or changes to our website using the "CONTACT US" feature below. Send other questions or comments as well! If we haven't already, we hope to meet you soon!
We love ham radio enthusiasts, so feel free to visit our next meeting to get to know us better. You don't need to be a member to come. You don't need to be licensed to come to a meeting. Even if you are just curious about ham radio, come by! The meetings are relaxed, informative, and fun.
