Please be prepared to participate in severe weather nets when adverse weather conditions arise in Lee County. Severe weather nets take place on the Salem Hill 2 Meter repeater (147.150 MHz, Offset +0.6 MHz, and Input Tone 123.0 Hz). These take place at all times of the day and night when conditions indicate incoming bad weather. Net Control is Mike Watkins - WX4AL. When participating, be prepared to power your station with off-grid sources if necessary. Be prepared in your reports to WX4AL to comment on weather conditions (temperature, wind speed, precipitation) in your specific location, report any observed weather phenomena such as tornadoes, hail, sleet, etc., report on any damage to property or infrastructure that you are aware of including downed trees or power lines, describe any flooding or road conditions that may affect travel, request any resources that are needed, and otherwise comment on observations or circumstances that are appropiate considering the weather. Below is a log from a recent event.

"Ten years ago, Parks on the Air was little more than an idea shared among a handful of operators disappointed to see the ARRL’s wildly successful National Parks on the Air (NPOTA) event come to an end. Today, it has become one of the largest grassroots movements in amateur radio, with nearly 50 million QSOs logged, more than 85,000 registered parks, and operators active across 236 entities."

The POTA FEST 2026 special event at Chewacla State Park (US-1038), initiated by Adam – WV4F and Bobby – N0Ozz and supported by several of our members, was a terrific success. Open the link below to see a very informative article with map and data reflecting the actual outcome of the event. We think POTA FEST should become an annual event. Let’s discuss this Thursday evening!
We would like to draw attention to the new Network Contact Data Collection and Analysis Tool that was developed by Adam - WV4F recently. Developing good simplex networking capability is important in preparing for a possible emergency communication system in the event of loss of other means of communications. Simplex communications among amateur radio operators can make the exchange of important messages possible when other systems fail. Please click below to get an advance look at this tool. We would like to recognize the contributions of Col. Bill Hecker - KC0ET in initiating this system of simplex contacts. Thanks Bill!
Courtesy of Dayne Aldridge - K8CHY, we have been provided with a copy of the 1994 East Alabama Amateur Radio Club's membership roster. Step back 32 years into history by taking a look at it. Just click on the image to the left or by clicking this link. You may find it interesting! Enjoy!!
Thanks Dayne.
